Windsor Castle
Windsor Castle is the home of the Royal Family and boasts magnificent State Rooms and Chapel. The Dolls House is also interesting for its attention to detail and flushing toilet! Changing of the Guard is performed when the Queen is in residence.
The apartments have been sumptuously restored since the great fire of 1992. The restoration cost £50m and the prime minister of the day offered to pay the lot out of tax payers money. The outraged public reaction illustrated the change in the public's affection for the monarchy. The Queen subsequently offered to pay half the cost from her very substantial wealth. There are excellent shopping facilities in the town and old railway station. Website: www.royal.gov.uk Nearby attractions: Eton College; Hampton Court can only be reached by coach.
