The English Reformation, following Henry VIII's break with Rome, at one go transferred
all the catholic churches and cathedrals to the Anglican Church. The catholic
church had to wait almost 500 years before work began in 1895 on a new WESTMINSTER
CATHEDRAL. The exterior in terracotta-coloured bricks was completed in 1903
and it is notable for its minarets and Russian type
copulas.
The interior is distinguished by the widest nave in Britain, still undecorated, and the 12 Stations of the Cross executed by Eric Gill, the famous sculptor.
There is an attractive piazza in front of the cathedral.
