Science Museum
The SCIENCE MUSEUM is the Victorian homage to learning and science from the Industrial Revolution to the present day. The museum contains many inter-active displays to amuse and instruct participants.
The exhibits are too many to mention in full but of interest to school groups are: a small-scale history of science from the Stone Age to 1914; Space and the Apollo 10 mission; Food for Thought and the role of nutrition in our lives; Science and Art - ancient medicine, medieval pharmacy, quack doctors and military surgery; Stephenson's 1813 Puffing Billy and his Rocket of 1829 which led to the evolution of the railway system; and a full scale model of the Wright brothers first power-assisted plane flight in 1903. The new Welcome Wing is devoted to contemporary science, medicine and technology. The latest inter-active displays excite the imagination and explore the nature of man - budding scientists could spend all day here. The wing also includes a 450-seat Imax theatre.
