Natural History Museum

The museum's collections are amongst the largest and most interesting in the world.

Dinosaur gallery - Click to expand A raised walkway in the Dinosaur gallery leads to a life-sized roaring animatronic tableau of reptiles tearing apart a tenontosaurus and a Tyrannosaurus Rex guarding its recently killed prey.

Another popular gallery is the insect room where giant models of scorpions, spiders, bugs and flies rival science-fiction fantasies. There is also a live exhibit of a fungus-growing colony of ants. A few thousand of these colonies would outnumber the population of Britain.

The human biology section is a highly inter-active exhibition illustrating the amazing complexity of the human body.

Earth gallery - Click to expand The ecology section explores how we are linked with all the living organisms in our world, a complex environment where the balance of air, earth, energy from sunlight and water is crucial to survival. Human beings are just part of the equation.

The refubished Earth galleries are dominated by a large sculptured globe which is surrounded by representations of the solar system and constellations.
