One week before World War II the CABINET WAR ROOMS
became operational below ground, 100 metres from 10 Downing Street.
In the twenty-one rooms of this cramped and spartan refuge, Churchill and his most senior government
and military figures worked and survived six years of ferocious air attacks. The accommodation included
sleeping quarters, shooting range and canteen. The rooms have been kept exactly as they were before the lights
were finally extinguished at the end of the war.
